This documantary follows the life and
career of Mexico's most successful boxer, Julio César
Chávez, and traces his roots from Sinaloa to the height of
international fame. Actor turned director, Diego Luna,
centers the narrative mostly around Chavez's career and his
relationship with his son, interspersing interviews with
Cesar Jr. and other figures from the boxer's life.
Though there are plenty of fight scenes, Luna understands
that a boxing story's fascination isn't all about the
punches. The film has a traditional take on the old
rags-to-riches story and explors the way unsophisticated
celebrities can be manipulated by unscrupulous politics and
promoters.
