Diego Luna and Gael García join the days of Fasting for Food Independence; they demand to withdraw corn and beans from the NAFTA commercial agreement.
Mexico City, 10 December 2007 – Actress Jesusa Rodríguez took part in the Fast for Food Independence promoted by 300 integral organizations of the National Campaign in Defense of Food Sovereignty and the Recovery of Mexican Land.
In the Angel of Independence Monument of the capital, the first of five days was carried out to demonstrate the need to withdraw corn and beans from the commercial agreement, and for the establishment of a permanent system of importation for white corn and legumes.
Close to 30 organizers presented a document that reports on the affectations the national land will suffer as a result of the North-American Free Trade Agreement.
Signatures were collected to withdraw the agricultural section and that will be dedicated to the Congress of the Union at the final days of fasting that are a part of the national campaign “Without corn there is no country, nor without beans. Put Mexico in your mouth!”
In addition to rural, social, political and trade union organizations, intellectuals and artists join this activity; such as Diego Luna, Gael García Bernal, Andrés Palacios, Juan Manuel Bernal, Julieta Egurrola, Bruno Bichir, Cecilia Suárez, Vanessa Bauche, Luis Roberto Guzmán, Vanessa Ciangherotti and Miguel Rodarte, among others.
On Wednesday and Thursday there will be a forum of intellectuals and specialists on the importance of corn in Mexico, the loss of food sovereignty and the nation as the center of origin of this mother plant.

Diego Luna y Gael García se suman a las jornadas de Ayuno por la Independencia Alimentaria, exigen retirar al maíz y al frijol del acuerdo comercial del TLC (Tratado de Libre Comercio).
CIUDAD DE MÉXICO, México, dic. 10, 2007.-La actriz Jesusa Rodríguez participó en el Ayuno por la Independencia Alimentaria auspiciado por las 300 organizaciones integrantes de la Campaña Nacional en Defensa de la Soberanía Alimentaria y la Reactivación del Campo Mexicano.
En el monumento al Ángel de la Independencia de esta capital, se realizó la primera de cinco jornadas para manifestar la necesidad de retirar del acuerdo comercial al maíz y el frijol, y por el establecimiento de un sistema permanente de importación para el maíz blanco y la leguminosa.
Cerca de 30 convocantes presentaron un documento que informa sobre las afectaciones que sufrirá el campo nacional a raíz del Tratado de Libre Comercio de América del Norte (TLCAN).
Se colectaron firmas para retirar el apartado agropecuario y que serán entregadas al Congreso de la Unión al término de las jornadas de ayuno que forman parte de la campaña nacional "Sin maíz no hay país, sin fríjol tampoco. Pon a México en tu boca!".
A esta actividad, además de organizaciones campesinas, sociales, políticas y sindicales, se suman intelectuales y artistas como Diego Luna, Gael García Bernal, Andrés Palacios, Juan Manuel Bernal, Julieta Egurrola, Bruno Bichir, Cecilia Suárez, Vanessa Bauche, Luis Roberto Guzmán, Vanessa Ciangherotti y Miguel Rodarte, entre otros.
Los días miércoles y el jueves habrá un foro de intelectuales y especialistas sobre la importancia del maíz en México, la pérdida de la soberanía alimentaria y la nación como centro de origen de esta planta madre.
