Luna and Korine at the Mexico Premier of Mister Lonely l 24 February 2008
Actor Diego Luna and Hormony Korine were present today at the special showing of the movie Mister Lonely in the Mexico City International Festival of Contemporary Cinema.
At the end of the screening, the actor and director offered a press conference and Harmony said that he chose Luna to lead this film because he saw something in him that he didn’t find in American actors.
“I feel that young American actors have a great falseness and when I saw Diego I felt that my ‘Michael Jackson’ had to be a Mexican,” he pointed out.
Mister Lonely tells the story of a Michael Jackson impersonator who lives in Paris and devotes himself to dancing in the streets, public parks and tourist places.
One day he meets a woman who imitates Marilyn Monroe, and captivated by her beauty, he follows her up to a commune in Scotland where a group of celebrity impersonators put together a big performance.
So Michel Jackson must live together with the Pope, Madonna, Abraham Lincoln, Queen Isabel, Shirley Temple and Charlie Chaplin.
About this story, Luna emphasized that he felt very glad to take part in this film that shows the complex world of imitators who try to live through another person.
Mister Lonely is led by Diego Luna, the Briton Samantha Morton, the Frenchman Denis Lavant, the Italian Anita Pallenberg, the New Yorker David Blaine, and the German Werner Herzog (producer who takes part as an actor in this film).
This movie was already shown at the Cannes Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival, among others. Its commercial premiere will be from April or May, indicated Luna.

El actor Diego Luna y Harmony Korine asistieron hoy a la proyección especial de la película "Mister Lonely" en el Festival Internacional de Cine Contemporáneo de Ciudad de México.
Al término de la proyección, el actor y el realizador ofrecieron una rueda de prensa y Harmony dijo que escogió a Luna para protagonizar esta cinta porque vio en él algo que no encontró en los actores estadounidenses.
"Siento que los actores jóvenes de Estados Unidos tienen un grado de falsedad, y cuando vi a Diego sentí que mi 'Michael Jackson' tenía que ser mexicano", apuntó.
"Mister Lonely" narra la historia de un imitador de Michael Jackson que vive en París y se dedica a bailar en las calles, parques públicos y sitios turísticos.
Un día conoce a una mujer que imita a Marilyn Monroe y cautivado por su belleza, la sigue hasta una comuna en Escocia, en donde un grupo de imitadores de celebridades monta un gran espectáculo.
Así Michel Jackson debe de convivir con el Papa, Madonna, Abraham Lincoln, la reina Isabel, Shirley Temple y Charles Chaplin.
Sobre esta historia, Luna destacó que se sintió muy contento de participar en esta cinta, donde se muestra el mundo complejo de los imitadores, quienes tratan de vivir a través de otra persona.
"Mister Lonely" es protagonizada por el mexicano Diego Luna, la británica Samantha Morton, el francés Denis Lavant, la italiana Anita Pallenberg, el neoyorquino David Blaine, y el alemán Werner Herzog (realizador que en esta cinta participa como actor).
Esta cinta ya fue proyectada en el Festival de Cannes (en la Sección Una Cierta Mirada), y en el Festival Internacional de Cine de Toronto, entre otros. Su estreno comercial será a partir de abril o mayo, indicó Luna.
