They Applaud Cochochi for 5 Minutes l 4 September 2007

Although Cochochi is a movie in which Diego Luna does not appear, being the producer gives him enough reason to feel joyful for the five minutes of applause that the film, made by Laura Guzmán and Israel Cárdenas, received yesterday after being presented at the Venice Film Festival.

“I am very proud that this project has to do with Canana (his production company) because it is a film that leaves you with a delightful sensation. Being here with them (the directors) has been very important because this festival is very representative and, also Cochochi is a marvelous movie that has already taken off,” said Diego over the phone from Venice.

Cochochi is spoken almost completely in Rarámuri [the language of the Tarahumara, a Mexican Indigenous people of northern Mexico, renowned for their long-distance running ability]. It was filmed in the sierra Tarahumara and tells the story of Evaristo and Tony, two boys that loose their grandfather’s horse during a trip and in the search, face a series of adventures and educations.

“It was a beautiful presentation. The people remained during the whole movie, the applause was lovely. To see them (the directors) receiving the applause was very moving,” said Diego.

For the directors, this was their first experience at a festival.
