The Book Rudo y Cursi l 6 December 2008

Carlos & Diego

Actor Diego Luna and director Carlos Cuarón promoted the new movie Rudo y Cursi at the Guadalajara International Book Fair on December 3, 2008. The film premieres December 19 in Mexico. Cuarón also spoke to the media about the Rudo y Cursi book.

“It is a more a token book with texts of the principal collaborators of the movie, everyone talking about their experiences, many with a great sense of humor and it's very entertaining. It has many photos and extracts of the script.”

According to Diego Luna the experience of collaborating on this publication happened from pleasure. Rudo y Cursi, the book, promises to surprise the reader across the cinematographic experience.

CARLOS CUARÓN

Question: Why chose Diego to play Rudo (Rough) and Gael Cursi (Corny)?

Carlos: “When I first posed it to them, Gael wanted to be Rudo and Diego wanted to be Cursi. I did not want to make Y tu mamá también II, but a different film where they go against their types to help generate original characters.”

DIEGO LUNA

Question: Carlos mentioned that you were conceiving closer to the character of Cursi (corny) because you think you're like this?

Diego: “The idea is that Rudo has a lot more of cursi and Cursi much of rudo. We all are like a mixture of extremes, but my character was very distant and was difficult work for me to find. Therefore I enjoyed it very much... Rudo is the type that always says what he thinks.”

Q: Between you and Gael who would be the rough one and who the corny one out of the movie?

Diego: “We are both very corny. It’s a little depressing, but we’re both very even-tempered. I do not see the rough one that way. We all have a little of the two.”

Q: And of Alfonso and Carlos, who is who?

Diego: “It depends. The two say they’re rough at the first opportunity. Alfonso has it more developed because he has many years of directing. Carlos can only shout at you from his computer. He has less experience being rough, but in the shooting he left you and you don't want to be wrong when there is a Cuarón nearby.”
