They Presume to Work as a Team
If Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna have gone to Spain to work before, they now plan to return something they received through their production company Canana, supporting the film Sólo quiero caminar (I Only Want to Walk). The film will be shot in Mexican locations under the guidance of Spaniard Agustín Días Yanes.
“It’s going incredibly! Diego, everyone, we are all lit up. As always, it’s very premature to talk about a project that hasn’t been done. You have to be careful with that. It’s entertaining to talk about the dream, but it’s better to work and make them,” indicated Gael.
Gael and Dias Yanes met during the filming of Bendito infierno (Holy Hell), whereas Luna participated with Iberian director David Trueba in en Soldados de Salamina (Soldiers of Salamina).
In addition to Victoria Abril, Sólo quiero caminar will star Iberian actresses Ariadna Gil, Pilar López de Ayala and Elena Anaya and would be the new Canana project, where Pablo Cruz makes the third partner, that on Thursday night celebrated their two year anniversary in a bar located in the Historical Center [in Mexico City].
— Is it easy or complicated to raise projects having the names of Gael and Diego?

— How have these two years of Canana been?
—Diego: “As if it were four! But we still have many desires left to celebrate, because this is nothing but the beginning. We’ve assembled a family that is going to last us a very long time.”
— How is the film Pedro Páramo going, that you apparently produce?
—Pablo: “It is a very complicated project. I do not really know what can happen... What is sure is the post-production phases of Voy a explotar (Gerardo Naranjo, Drama/Mex) and Sin nombre (with immigrants subject-matter) which stopped filming four days ago. In distribution we go with several qualifications: Deficit (Gael’s debut) no, he is going with Videocine with whom we’ve achieved good things.

Si antes Gael García Bernal y Diego Luna han ido a España a trabajar, ahora planean devolver algo de lo recibido a través de su productora Canana, apoyando la cinta Sólo quiero caminar. La cinta se rodará en locaciones mexicanas bajo la dirección del español Agustín Días Yanes.
“¡Va increíble!, Diego, todos, estamos prendidos. Como siempre, es muy prematuro hablar de un proyecto que no se ha hecho; hay que tener cuidado con eso. Es divertido hablar acerca de los sueños, pero es mejor trabajar y hacerlos”, indicó Gael.
Gael y Dias Yanes se conocieron durante el rodaje de Bendito infierno, mientras que Luna ha participado con el director ibérico David Trueba en Soldados de Salamina.
Sólo quiero caminar será estelarizada, además de Victoria Abril, por las actrices ibéricas Ariadna Gil, Pilar López de Ayala y Elena Anaya y sería el nuevo proyecto de Canana, donde Pablo Cruz conforma el triunvirato de socios, que la noche del jueves celebró sus dos primeros años de vida en un antro ubicado en el Centro Histórico.
—¿Es fácil o complicado levantar proyectos teniendo los nombres de Gael y Diego?
—Gael: A final de cuentas tiene que ver con el proyecto en particular, es caso por caso, siempre es distinto. No puedo decir que ha ayudado o perjudicado, creo que ha hecho las dos cosas... Creo que a final de cuentas es un proceso de reinvención con cada proyecto, finalmente Canana se está convirtiendo en un ente ajeno a nosotros, donde no sólo trabajamos los dos sino también muchas personas no sólo de México sino de distintas partes del mundo que quieren expresar algo.
—¿Cómo han sido estos dos años de Canana?
—Diego: ¡Como si fueran cuatro!... Pero todavía nos quedan muchas ganas para celebrar, porque este nada más es el arranque. Hemos armado una familia que nos va durar por muy largo rato.
—¿Cómo va la cinta Pedro Páramo, donde aparentemente producirían ustedes?
—Pablo: Es un proyecto bien complicado, que no sé realmente qué puede pasar... Lo que se tiene seguro es la etapa de la posproducción de Voy a explotar (Gerardo Naranjo, Dramamex) y Sin nombre (con temática de inmigrante), que hace cuatro días terminó de filmarse. En distribución vamos con varios títulos: Déficit (ópera prima de Gael) no, él va con Videocine, con el que logramos buenas cosas.
