It moved Diego Luna that Gus Van Sant looked for him personally to possibly play the role of Jack Lira in the movie Milk, which he considered as praise for his acting.
“This was a dream project, going to do it with my eyes closed. With a good director and a good story it’s possible to arrive at something great, and I believe that will happen here.
“Gus spoke to me, we got together in Los Angeles, he wanted to chat with me, that I read the script. He said to me, ‘You project great happiness, you are very happy and I want you to play this character who is not so happy. I want to see if we can work on this other part of you that I have not seen.” And I said, ‘How fucking cool that a director posses a challenge like that to you,’” Diego detailed in exclusive interview.
The 28 year old actor said that the principal challenge of interpreting one of the two most well-known homosexual partners of Harvey Milk was to give him credibility as a tormented alcoholic, more so than the love scenes with protagonist Sean Penn.
The actor and producer, who is filming Sólo Quiero Caminar in Mexico City with Spaniards Victoria Abril and Ariadna Gil, said that what will suprise the people who see Milk the most will be the characterazation of Penn.

"Esto era un proyecto de sueño, de ir con los ojos cerrados a hacerlo. Con un buen director y una buena historia se puede llegar a algo muy grande, y creo que aquí se dará.
"Gus me habló, nos juntamos en Los Ángeles, quería platicar conmigo, que leyera el guión. Me dijo: 'Tú proyectas mucha alegría, eres muy alegre y quiero que hagas este personaje, que no es tan alegre. Quiero ver si podemos trabajar esa otra parte de ti que no he visto. Y yo dije: '¡Qué chingón que un director te plantee un reto así'", detalló Diego en entrevista exclusiva.
El actor de 28 años dijo que el principal reto de interpretar a una de las dos parejas homosexuales más conocidas de Harvey Milk fue darle credibilidad a un alcohólico atormentado, más que las escenas de amor con el protagonista, Sean Penn.
El actor y productor, quien filma en el DF Sólo Quiero Caminar con las españolas Victoria Abril y Ariadna Gil, dijo que lo que más le sorprenderá a la gente que vea Milk será la caracterización de Penn.
