Man of Style – Diego Luna

He is one of the Mexican talents that has put a face to our cinema abroad. This month he releases Sólo Dios Sabe, a movie that Diego plays the lead in along side Alice Braga. And although more and more the popular actor is also the image of companies like Ermenegildo Zegna and American Express, he’s still a man that enjoys the simple things in life, like an afternoon among friends, in front of the barbecue at his home.

Today you’re 26 years old. You’ve made radical changes to your look throughout your life?

Diego: Yes, I suppose so. One changes and grows, and it seams to me that your look is modified in this process. Perhaps what I like least in this profession is that you invariably end up thinking more about how you see yourself. It’s sad to devote so much time to this reflection, but sometimes it’s impossible not to with so many photos and so much attention. Everything would have to be more organic, easier.

How would you describe your personal style nowadays?
Diego: Comfort above all. Although perhaps the best way to describe it would be, precisely, to say that I don’t have a definite style. One falls in love with garments that have accompanied you at some special moment or that have a personal past.

In what clothes do you feel the most comfortable?
Diego: U
ndoubtedly, it depends on each occasion in particular, but [there is] nothing like shorts and a T-shirt.

Do you like to go shopping?

Diego: I dispair quickly. This is one reason, but I also hate changing rooms. In addition, when I see offers, doubt always arises in me: Why is it so cheap? Or rather, why haven’t they sold this?

At this moment in your life, what is the best thing about being Diego Luna?

Diego: That I’m alive, that I have many people that love me, and that I’m healthy.

If you had not been an actor, what would you have liked to devote yourself to?

Diego: I’d like to be a chef and cook in my own place. Well… that and to be a soccer player.

How was your childhood?

Diego: Entertaining but rare. Different from many, I suppose. I’ve worked since I was seven, so I had a life of a boy in the mornings and another of an adult in the afternoons.

Who was your idol in childhood?
Diego: Daniel Giménez Cacho. Well… after Hugo Sánchez, of course!

Where do you currently live?
Diego: In Mexico City, but my work takes me up and down.

What would you say is your favorite toy today?

Diego: My barbecue. I like to cook in my free time, watch movies and barbecue.

What do you do when you want to get away?

Diego: I am addicted to messages and eating well, seeing my friends and laughing as much as possible.

Do you exercise?

Diego: I play soccer, but not so much to stay in shape, but to enjoy it. When I work, I also go to the gym in order to have a good level of energy and endure the filming.

And with this pace of your professional life, have you given time to romance?

Diego: Heart and body request it. Agreed it is spending time learning to prioritize. Being in love is the best thing that can happen to you, however much.

Today you’re in the middle of a relationship (with actress Paola Núñez). Do you think that some secret exists for a successful relationship?
Diego: To recognize that there are no secrets, that one is learning and will always make mistakes. Confidence is the most important thing.

What do you consider the sexiest thing about a woman?

Diego: Anything can be, even the unimaginable. That is when you realize you’ve already fallen in love with her: because even when she sneezes she looks beautiful to you.

Everyone fanaticizes about romantic films. Which would be ideal for you?
Diego: One where, without giving you an account, they give at four in the moring and you’ve not asked for dessert.

Obviously today you are in a privileged position in your career. What is the biggest luxury you’ve been given?

Diego: To be able to live doing what I like. I have the fortune to love my work.

And the best lesson you’ve learned as an actor during all these years of life?
Diego: You must always take into account that first thought that comes to you.
