Diego Luna in his best piece of work

Stages and movie sets are his space. And although his work makes him shine in all the firmaments, this actor, despite his youth being a good journey, does not lose his head.

It is no surprise that a young man that from his tender childhood lived in the world of stages chose acting as a profession. Maybe we should say that acting chose him, or perhaps it is wiser to say that Diego Luna did not have to choose because he was born an actor. As Diego tells us, when he was little he did not distinguish between real life and the life of the theater. For him the whole world was a stage. His father is one of the most recognized theatrical designers. And his mother, who died when the actor was scarcely three years old, an actress. Nevertheless, his interests go beyond performance. He first of all sees himself as a creator of projects; call him an actor, a director or a promoter.

With his feet on the ground
We all know him. Success usually rises to the top like a frothy drink and intoxicates you. As if by magic we addressed each other, the affected person starts to levitate becoming detached from the floor. What has Diego done to keep his feet in the ground? He confesses to us that the whole world is “raised”, but in his case, his family and friends are who have taken charge reminding him who he is. He tells us to be very conscious that success is only one more step on the journey and it depends on a series of factors. Likewise, he is convinced that falls do not necessarily mean failure, since he always learns from them.

It was in Mexico that he knew theatre and it is here where he feels he can carry out his projects with entire freedom. It’s for that reason, he tells us, that although he’s constantly had opportunity to work in diverse countries, unlike many other actors he’s not wanted to remain abroad. On having asked him for the people who have supported him the most in his career, he reveals to us that the first was his father, who allowed him to dedicate himself to it. And the fact is that although he seems incredible to us, Mister Luna was of the idea that his son was taking another path. However, far from dissuading him, he gave Diego his entire support. Diego also admits that the public has been fundamental in making him feel supported, and what to say of the directors that have risked having chosen him. We wonder if working with Diego really supposes a risk. The sure thing is that everyone is interested in him. He was recently the image of the Zzegna de Ermenegildo Zegna brand, an experience that, as he tells us, meant for him to get inside the world of fashion, something completely foreign to him, and especially the opportunity to work with a big photographer like Bruce Weber.

The staging of Festen, the project he’s currently working on, represents for Diego not only the opportunity to return to theater, but to work with his father. The actor explains to us that unlike cinematographic projects, that by his nature turn out to be extremely demanding and require continuous work, theatre has a slower rhythm that allows one to reflect on what he’s done day to day. Another advantage, he assures, he is direct contact with the public.

Of meat, bone and heart
We know the roles that Diego has played in his career, but what role is he playing in his love life and how does he combine it with his profession? This celebrity is convinced that love is the energy that moves everything, although he clarifies, it does not necessarily have to be in its romantic form, since many classes of love exist. For him, the world would be different if we all were doing the things for love; politicians, for love to his homeland, and actors for love to theatre. Equally he assures that pretext does not exist for not combining professional life with love life. It does not matter how busy he is. There is always time for romance. The actor confesses to us that although it’s not yet time, he wants to form a family in the future. This sentiment especially shows in him when he sees his friends with their children. For the time being, he is content being an uncle.
