What do
you think it is about you that women find sexy?
Oh, it’s such a nice thing- I wish I knew. My father says it’s because
I’m a very charming guy [laughs]. I don’t know. I don’t get that much
attention. It takes me a while to get close to the girls I like. I don’t
use this [job] to get closer to those girls- the gym is better.
But you’re a teen pin-up around the world…
You think so? That’s really bad. What can I do about that?
Why would you want to change that?
Well, I like people to see the movies I do. We tell stories so that
people will hear the stories we want to tell. Before I did Y Tu Mama
Tambien I did 15 other movies that no one got to see. So this is a
new feeling and a really nice feeling.
Does that affect your personal life?
Yeah, there’s that. You have to pick where you’re going to be and when.
Your character in Criminal is training to be a con man. Do you think
you’d make a good con artist?
No, Although, I have to say that when I was a kid I enjoyed lying a lot.
Then I found out there was a profession that paid for that, and that’s
what I do, basically. I tell stories that are not totally true and I
pretend to be a guy that I’m not.
What did you lie about?
Every thing. Half of my family lives in England and so I’d always tell
stories about my family that were not true. Like, “Where do they live?”
one day it was Scotland and the other day was Ireland and another day
would be London and the other day was whatever. My Grandfather was an
admiral in the navy.
Are you lying now?
[Laughs] No, he was an admiral for the navy and I always used to tell
stories about him that he never told me, about the submarine that he had
and how he got hit by a huge ship. Whatever. I loved to tell stories.
But now I do it in my job and I don’t affect people’s lives.
What was it like to kiss Maggie Gyllenhaal in the movie?
It was amazing. It was great. I have to say that with Maggie, the
greatest thing about her is that there’s always a lot happening in her
eyes and you can see a lot of what she’s feeling. Maggie has very
expressive eyes. She’s a great actress. She has an intense look and it’s
really nice to look at those eyes when our acting- and kissing her was
great also.
Maggie said she felt like an older women kissing you.
Oooh!
Do you mind kissing an older woman?
No, not at all. In fact, we had to do re-shoots of that scene and I was
so pleased.
