| The Good Canary heads to Guadalajara l 29 January 2009 |
Diego
Luna and Daniel Giménez Cacho open the tour of the play The Good
Canary (El Buen Canario) with a short period in Guadalajara, Mexico. The play with Azuela, Bruno Bichir, Martín Altomaro, Yuriria del Valle and Jorge Zárate, among others, tells a story of passion and madness with strong tones of comedy that at the end, according to Diego Luna, demonstrates that The Beatles were mistaken in their song All you need is love "because not everything is solved by love." The staging starts it's second phase with a series of presentations outside Mexico City, and Guadalajara has been chosen to start the tour. Diego says that “it's a mistake to see theater as something that remains behind when you start to have success. I believe it's exactly the opposite. Theater gives you the bases to endure everything that touches you later. Here we can return to the essential thing, which is to prepare only yourself in your dressing room. Going on stage, you realize the experience is only for those that see you and for yourself, and a bond joins us from this moment." He also added that the pleasure of doing theater also happens through the control one obtains as an actor about your character, since in a movie it's impossible to know which will be the final score: "In cinema even dogs act, in theater you have control of the moment. You feel the response and if it works or not. Cinema is tricky, you do it and a year goes by and later there are actors who come and have another voice, they correct them or cut them." In between jokes and seriousness, Luna remembers how he was a victim of the editing of the movie Y tu mamá también. "Alfonso (Cuarón), the director, took a scene of mine and Gael's (his costar) and put the audio of another one. The voice you were listening to as mine corresponded to another situation because he (Cuarón) liked a cocky comment I made in another scene and used it. They are things that one does not see when you are acting, and it works because cinema is like that. It's tricky in this sense and theater is a delightful dizziness." Diego Luna adds that all the awards, especially those of the Academy (United States), are very subjective, since in several occasions they are delivered to the most seen movies, and not necessarily to the best. "It's not necessary to think about awards. It's necessary now to obtain contact with the public. Later we think about the glamorous things." Diego boasted about the launching of The Good Canary book, which he recommended amply. He also admitted that he is interested in making a documentary about the life of (soccer player) Cuauhtémoc Blanco. The Good Canary / Theater Diana / On Tuesday, the 10th and Wednesday,
